PHOENIX, AZ — The Arizona Minority Business Development Center (AMBDC) has a new name. Effective as of the first of the year, the center is now called the Arizona Minority Business Enterprise Center (AMBEC).

"None of our services will change," said Roy Laos, project director for the AMBEC. "This is a change that is being made across the country by the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) out of Washington, D.C."

The AMBEC provides professional business consulting services and technical assistance to minority business owners in order to manage and grow their businesses. The center primarily concentrates on those businesses that generate $500,000 or more in annual revenues and have operated as a business for a minimum of one year. Services provided by the AMBEC include management counseling; business strategy; construction bonding assistance; procurement packaging assistance; minority certification and business plan development among other services.

The AMBEC is operated by the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation (AZHCCF) through a grant from the MBDA. Business owners eligible for assistance under the program, as defined by the MBDA, are African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Asian Indian Americans and Hasidic Jews. For more information, contact the AMBEC at 602-248-0007 or via their website at www.azmbdc.org.
