PHOENIX, AZ - Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board member Teresa Ornelas, owner of ¡Great Impact! Inc. has been presented with the prestigious Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund award honoring Latina entrepreneurs who personify the ideals of the late Anna Maria Arias, one of the foremost advocates of Latina entrepreneurship.
The Anna Maria Arias Award started in 2002 and selects 10 Latina business women throughout the United States. This award is given in honor of the spirit of Anna Maria Arias who spent her life promoting Latinas in the company she founded, LATINA Style Magazine. The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Wells Fargo Bank have teamed up with LATINA Style Magazine to honor what Anna Maria started. Each Award winner receives a monitory grant.
Anna Maria Arias was born in California. She moved to Washington D.C. in 1988. She became an activist for the advancement of Hispanic professional women. She exemplified professional life which included working as a radio news anchor, news writer, media and campaign organizer and managing editor of Hispanic Magazine. In 1991 Anna Maria launched LATINA Style, a magazine with the purpose to promote and highlight Latina professionals.
"It's always an honor to be recognized as a successful business woman by any organization and our company has various other awards," said Ornelas. "This award has a special meaning to me, because of the legacy that Anna Maria left for all Latinas. I am honored to be one of many following in her footsteps to help ensure that the Hispanic community and Latinas specifically, are properly represented in all areas of society".
