.The Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (AZHCC) and Qwest Communications present the 52nd Annual Black & White Ball and Business Awards, April 17, 2010, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.

The event is the longest running formal gala in Arizona and the premiere social gathering for Arizona's Latino community. It's also the AZHCC's biggest annual fund-raiser. This year's theme is "Bailando al Exito" (Dancing Toward Success).

"We're expecting at least 1,000 people this year. If you ask me, it's Arizona's best black-tie event, and part of the rich history of the state's Latino community," said Alex Juarez, chair of the event's planning committee. "The gala is not just a great night out on the town, but a terrific way to network with Latino and non-Latino business owners, power brokers and politicians, and a wide array of community leaders."

The event also features the Chamber's prestigious business awards ceremony.
This year's award winners are:

      ·        Man of the Year: Mario E Diaz of Mario E Diaz & Associates, Phoenix, AZ

      · Entrepreneur of the Year: The Molera Alvarez Group (Jaime Molera and Ruben Alvarez),                       Phoenix, AZ
      ·       Corporation of the Year: American Express Company, Phoenix, AZ

The AZHCC also will be honoring an "Arizona Legacy". This year's winner is former Arizona Gov. Raul H. Castro.

"We're very proud of this year's lineup of business award winners," said Armando Contreras, president and CEO of the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "The Black & White Ball is a place where the Latino business community gets to shine and honor people like our award recipients, all of whom have helped blaze the way for Hispanic business and community leaders. The presence of Gov. Castro will be a great honor, given his own amazing personal legacy."

The program also includes the announcement of the Chamber's college scholarship award recipients. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been awarded to deserving Latino students from across the state.

There will also be live musical entertainment, a ballroom dance competition featuring representatives of some of our major sponsors coupled with professional dancers, and a live performance by the Tejano group, La Familia Band.

This year's sponsors for the Black & White Ball and Business Awards include: Qwest Communications (Premier); Arizona Republic, La Voz Newspapers, KPNX Channel 12, Wells Fargo Co., Allstate, Fry's Food Stores, Latino Perspectives, Latino Future, US Bank, State Farm, Blender Marketing Group, Mercy Care Plan and Westar.

The Latino community is the fastest-growing population segment in Arizona. It includes an estimated 50,000 Latino-owned small businesses statewide. The growth rate for Latino-owned businesses is three times the national average, according to Small Business Administration. In Arizona, Nearly 2 of 5 Hispanic-owned businesses are sole-proprietorships, with two-thirds of them being family-owned, according to DATOS: Focus on the Hispanic Market, published annually by the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. More than one-third of these businesses have annual revenue of more than $500,000.
